![]() You can decide for yourself which type of adaptation you prefer, but Disney has more of everything. ![]() Basically, these projects fall into two camps: there’s the ultra-faithful, scene-for-scene re-dos (like The Lion King), or movies that take a seed of an idea from the originals and go off on their own paths (like Alice in Wonderland or Dumbo). In 2019 alone, Disney put out four such adaptations: Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. (Well, live action with a healthy dose of CG, as you can never truly make a live-action version of a movie like The Jungle Book or The Lion King.) And the trend shows no signs of slowing down. ![]() ![]() Starting when Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland made more than a billion (with a “b”) dollars at the worldwide box office in 2010, Disney started getting serious about re-making all of its animated classics as live-action movies. ![]()
